— ROUTE 46, END TO END —

From Rockaway to Hogwash Without Leaving Route 46

Rockaway is one of the easiest towns in Morris County to serve from our location, because the road that passes through the southern end of Rockaway Borough is the road we sit on. Route 46 enters the borough at its southern edge, continues east through Denville and into Parsippany, and Hogwash Oil Change Center is at 1600 US-46, Parsippany, NJ 07054, right on the highway. Interstate 80 clips the northeast corner of the borough as well, and I-80 east also drops you into Parsippany a short distance from Route 46.

From the borough

From Main Street and the center of Rockaway Borough, work your way south to Route 46. Lakeland Bus Lines runs its Route 46 line along Main Street toward New York, which tells you how naturally the borough connects to the highway. You pass through Denville and continue into Parsippany; the shop is on the highway, so there is no turn into a side street to look for.

From Rockaway Township

Rockaway Township wraps around the borough to the north and west, and much of it is closer to I-80 than to Route 46. Take I-80 east, exit in Parsippany, and connect down to Route 46. Drivers from the White Meadow Lake section and the southern part of the township can use either road.

Either way, when you arrive you pull into the drive-thru bay and stay in the driver’s seat. There is no appointment, and you never leave your vehicle. When the oil change is finished you drive out, and if you want a wash, the car wash is at the same location.

Why Rockaway Drivers Get Their Oil Changed in Parsippany

Rockaway takes its name from the Rockaway River and shares it with the township that surrounds it. The borough is compact, bordered only by Denville and Rockaway Township, and it does not have its own NJ Transit station; commuters use Denville station or Dover station, or the Lakeland buses on Route 46 and I-80. In practice that means a Rockaway household drives more than it might seem: to the station, to the highway, to Morris Hills High School in the borough or Morris Knolls in Denville, and along Route 46 for almost everything else.

All those miles land on the engine oil. An express oil change near Rockaway that fits into a Route 46 trip, rather than becoming its own errand with an appointment attached, is what our drive-thru format is for. Hogwash Oil Change Center is a drive-thru: you stay in your vehicle for the whole service, our technicians change the oil and the oil filter and check your fluids, and you drive out. We use Mobil 1 oils exclusively, full synthetic and high-mileage, and we keep the pricing competitive.

The oil change center and the car wash share one location on US-46 in Parsippany. For a car that has spent a winter on the hills around Rockaway, that combination in a single stop is worth the drive.

Affordable Maintenance for Rockaway Cars, Done in the Same Bay

Start with the Mobil 1 oil change: full synthetic or high-mileage Mobil 1, a new oil filter and a fluid check, all while you sit in the car. Then, if the car needs it, add any of the following before you head back up Route 46.

Tire rotation

The climb out of the Rockaway River valley and the hills of Rockaway Township put more work on the front tires. A tire rotation evens the wear and gets more life from the set.

Engine and cabin air filters

An engine air filter and cabin air filter swap is quick and can be done during the oil change. It matters more for cars parked under trees or driven on dusty township roads.

Fuel injection service

A fuel injection service cleans deposits off the injectors and restores efficiency, useful for a car that does a lot of cold starts and short hops around the borough.

Fluids, belts and wipers

Transmission flush, radiator flush and fill, differential service, serpentine belt inspection and wiper blade replacement are all available. Everything is listed on the services page.

Fast and Affordable, Without Cutting the Corners That Matter

“Fast and affordable” is easy to say. Here is what it means at Hogwash for a Rockaway driver. Fast means drive-thru: there is no appointment to make, and the whole service happens while you sit in your own car. It means you can fold the oil change into a Route 46 trip you were making anyway. Affordable means competitive pricing on a service that uses Mobil 1 and nothing else.

What we do not cut is the oil or the care. Mobil 1 oils are known for engine protection, efficiency and performance, in advanced full synthetic and high-mileage formulas. Our technicians are skilled at what they do, use the latest equipment and pay attention to detail; a fluid check is part of every oil change, not an upsell. That combination is why we say we are Parsippany’s trusted choice for oil changes, and why drivers from Rockaway and the towns in between keep making the trip.

There is one more practical point. Rockaway Borough is small and the surrounding township is spread out; getting anything done locally can mean driving somewhere either way. If you are going to drive, a drive-thru bay on the highway with a car wash attached is a good place to end up.

A Rockaway Driver's First Visit, Start to Finish

Before you go. Nothing to book. Our hours are Monday to Saturday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Getting there. Route 46 east from the south end of the borough, through Denville and into Parsippany, or I-80 east from the township side and down to 46. We are at 1600 US-46, Parsippany, NJ 07054.

In the bay. Pull in, stay in the car. The old oil comes out, a new oil filter goes on, the right Mobil 1 formula for your vehicle goes in, and the fluids get checked. Any extras you asked for, tire rotation, filters, wipers, fluid services, are done at the same time.

Leaving. Drive out of the bay. Add the car wash if you want it. Then Route 46 and home to Rockaway.

Next time. Mobil 1 full synthetic is built for long service life, but hills, cold starts and short trips shorten the interval a little. Watch your mileage and your oil-life light. When it is due, the bay is here and there is still no appointment. Questions in the meantime: 973-335-3000.

— ROCKAWAY HISTORY —

Rockaway Borough: From Canal Town to Main Street

Rockaway Borough became its own municipality in 1894, formed from part of Rockaway Township after a local referendum. By then the village was already well established. The borough covers about 2.1 square miles, which makes it one of the smaller municipalities in Morris County, and it is surrounded by the much larger Rockaway Township, the county’s biggest municipality by area.

Much of the borough’s growth came from the Morris Canal, which ran right through the heart of town. The canal was lined with commercial and industrial businesses, and one of its basins, used for unloading Pennsylvania coal and loading local iron products, is now the park and playfield between Church Street and Maple Avenue. The Presbyterian congregation built its brick church in 1832, during the same period of growth.

In the early 1900s the borough had two major railroads, a trolley line, an iron foundry, an inclined plane and two canal basins, along with a bicycle factory and three hotels. Today the borough sits between Interstate 80 and US Route 46, and its public library occupies the historic Joseph Jackson House.

All of that history adds up to a town where daily driving means short local trips mixed with highway runs, which is exactly the pattern that makes regular maintenance worthwhile. Read about neighboring Denville or the whole Morris County service area.

The borough’s larger neighbor has its own story. Rockaway Township, which surrounds much of the borough, was incorporated in 1844 and covers about 45.9 square miles, more than any other municipality in Morris County. It had about 25,300 residents at the 2020 census. For many borough drivers, trips to the interstate or to Route 46 pass through the township, so a single maintenance stop can cover a lot of mixed local and highway miles.

The borough also maintains its own K-8 school district, parks and library, with Park Lake and Main Street close together in its compact center.
