Whippany and Cedar Knolls sit on one of the busiest commercial corridors in Morris County. Route 10 to I-287 is a direct way to our drive-thru bay on Route 46. Mobil 1, no appointment.
Hanover Township covers 10.8 square miles of Morris County and is made up of two communities, Whippany and Cedar Knolls, with close to 14,000 residents between them. What makes it unusual is how much work happens inside those boundaries. Morristown Airport, the second-largest corporate airport in New Jersey, sits in the township. So do Bayer, Tiffany and Company, MetLife, Wegmans, Barclays and Novartis, along with the Morris County Library, the WMTR and WDHA studios and five major hotels. Route 10 runs through the middle of it and meets I-287 there.
That mix produces a particular kind of mileage. Residents commute, but the township also absorbs thousands of vehicles a day that belong to people working, flying or staying there — and all of it funnels onto the same few roads at the same few hours. Idling in that traffic is engine time the odometer never counts, which is why a Hanover car is often due for an oil change earlier than its mileage suggests.
Hogwash Oil Change Center is at 1600 US-46, Parsippany, NJ 07054, just over the township line. The bay is drive-thru: you stay in the driver’s seat while a technician drains the old oil, fits a new filter, fills with Mobil 1 and checks your fluids. There is nothing to book and you stay in your vehicle, which is the point when your day already has no gaps in it.
Stop-and-go driving is the hardest ordinary use a car gets. The engine runs, the oil circulates and heats, but the miles do not accumulate — so the wear happens invisibly. Anyone who has sat through the Route 10 and I-287 interchange on a weekday evening has put more hours on an engine than the trip length implies.
Mobil 1 is our answer to that, and it is the only oil we stock. Mobil 1 full synthetic is known for engine protection, efficiency and performance, and it keeps a stable film through the heat cycles that stop-and-go traffic creates. For a vehicle with a lot of years of this behind it, the high-mileage formula is often the better fit. Our technicians will tell you which your engine calls for.
The second reason is scheduling, or the lack of it. A township full of office parks, hotels and an airport runs on tight calendars, and a shop that requires an appointment two days out is a shop that gets skipped. Drive-thru, walk-in service means a Cedar Knolls or Whippany driver can come at lunch, after a meeting or on the way home without planning it in advance. Every Mobil 1 change still includes a new oil filter and a fluid check — those are part of the service, not upsells.
The car wash shares the property, which is worth knowing if the car is one you turn up to client meetings in.
Hanover Township borders Parsippany-Troy Hills directly, and Route 10 and I-287 do most of the work.
Take Route 10 west to the I-287 interchange, run north on 287 to Route 46, then follow it to 1600 US-46. The township offices on Route 10 are a useful landmark for the start of that trip.
Come out to Route 10 and follow the same route north on I-287 to Route 46. If traffic on 10 has backed up, Ridgedale Avenue north to Route 202 and across to Route 46 is the usual alternative.
Head out to Route 10, then I-287 north to Route 46. If you are collecting a car from long-term parking after a trip, this is a sensible stop on the way — a car that has sat for two weeks is a car worth checking over.
Pull into the drive-thru bay, put the car in park and stay in it. When the work is done you drive out the far side. The car wash is on the same lot.
The core service is a Mobil 1 oil change: full synthetic or high-mileage Mobil 1, a new oil filter and a fluid check, done while you sit in the car. Around it, our technicians handle the routine items a Hanover Township car uses up faster than most.
Constant braking and low-speed manoeuvring on Route 10 wears the front tires ahead of the rears. A tire rotation evens the set out and adds very little to the visit.
Sitting in traffic means breathing what the car in front is producing. Replacing the engine air filter and cabin air filter restores airflow to the engine and cleans up the air inside the cabin, which is the one most commuters notice immediately.
Long idles are a reliable way to build injector deposits. A fuel injection service clears them and helps the engine hold its efficiency.
We also handle transmission flush, radiator flush and fill, differential service, serpentine belt inspection and wiper blade replacement. Ask in the bay for details. The full list is on our services page.

Hanover Township has deep roots. The Township of Hanover was established on December 7, 1720, and named in honor of King George I of the House of Hanover. Over the following centuries, several of today’s municipalities, including East Hanover and Morris Plains, were formed from its territory. Today’s township is made up of two communities, Whippany and Cedar Knolls, with close to 14,000 residents, and it is home to Morristown Municipal Airport.
Whippany also has one of the county’s best-known attractions for rail fans. The Whippany Railway Museum sits behind the stone depot at 1 Railroad Plaza, at Route 10 and Whippany Road. The station depot opened in 1905, and the museum’s restored 1904 freight house holds its collection. Next to it, the Morristown and Erie Railroad Whippany Water Tank, built in 1904, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. The museum’s story began in 1965, when the Morris County Central steam excursion railroad started running from Whippany.
Route 10 is still the township’s main street for traffic, with an I-287 interchange, office parks and shopping. Corridor driving like that, with frequent stops and starts, puts real work on engine oil. Our oil change page explains which oil suits which kind of driving.
See neighboring East Hanover and Morris Plains.
The museum’s excursion trains follow the route of the historic Whippanong Trail through Whippany, East Hanover, Livingston and Roseland, passing through remnants of prehistoric Glacial Lake Passaic and crossing high above the Passaic River on a steel bridge. The museum features the largest collection of American-built standard-gauge steam locomotives on display in New Jersey, including Southern Railway No. 385, built in 1907 for fast freight service.
The excursion history is part of the museum’s appeal. On May 9, 1965, Southern Railway No. 385 pulled the Morris County Central’s first trainload of more than 400 passengers from Whippany to Morristown. Today the museum is run by an all-volunteer staff, and in 2011 a New Jersey State Assembly proclamation recognized its work preserving the state’s railroad history.
Here are some of the most common questions about our services at Hogwash.
Yes. Hanover Township is made up of Whippany and Cedar Knolls, and both are a short run from us. Route 10 west to I-287 north, then Route 46 to 1600 US-46 in Parsippany.
You can. Nothing is booked in advance, so a lunch break works as well as an evening. We open at 8:00 AM Monday through Saturday, and stay open until 5:00 PM.
Yes. Time spent idling is engine running time that the odometer does not record, so a car doing the Route 10 and I-287 crawl each evening is working its oil harder than its mileage implies. A full synthetic such as Mobil 1 holds up better under that load.
We serve whatever drives into the bay. There is no appointment system to work around, which suits vehicles that are only free at unpredictable times. Every Mobil 1 oil change includes a new oil filter and a fluid check.
Yes. The car wash is on the same property as the oil bay, and it stays open on Sundays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Mobil Super $39.99, Mobil Super High Mileage $69.99, Mobil Super Synthetic $79.99 and Mobil 1 $99.99. Other services have the starting prices listed on this page.
Yes: tire rotation, air filters, fuel injection service, transmission flush, radiator flush and fill, differential service, engine flush, 4×4 drive service, serpentine belts and wiper blades.
A typical Hanover visit gets slotted into a gap. Someone leaving an office park off Route 10 can take 287 north to reach Route 46. Into the bay, park, stay seated. The technician has the old oil draining and the new filter ready while you work out whether the car wants full synthetic or high-mileage Mobil 1. Fluids checked, wipers looked at if you raise it, and out the far side. A wash on the same lot if the car needs to look presentable tomorrow, and back onto 46.
Between visits, treat the oil-life indicator as the authority, especially if most of your driving is the evening crawl rather than open road. If a warning light or a burnt smell arrives before the indicator does, call 973-335-3000.
Hanover Township borders Parsippany-Troy Hills, East Hanover, Morris Township, Morris Plains and Florham Park, and shares Route 10 with most of them.
