— THREE VILLAGES, ONE BAY —

A Reliable Synthetic Oil Change for a Township That Runs on Its Cars

Montville Township covers about 19 square miles and is really three communities: Montville proper along Route 202, Towaco up by the train station, and Pine Brook down on the Route 46 side. Interstate 287 runs through the township, I-80 and Route 46 run along its southern edge, and Route 202, Changebridge Road, Hook Mountain Road and Boonton Avenue tie the villages together. Public transit inside the township is thin, so almost every household here runs on its cars, and those cars do a lot of miles between the schools, the fields at Camp Dawson, the library on Horseneck Road and the highways.

Hogwash Oil Change Center is at 1600 US-46, Parsippany, NJ 07054, on the same Route 46 corridor that Pine Brook already uses. The bay is drive-thru, which means the car never leaves your hands: you roll in, sit tight, and a technician handles the drain, the new filter, the Mobil 1 fill and a fluid check around you. Nothing is booked in advance, and you stay in your vehicle. Mobil 1 is the only oil we stock, in full synthetic and high-mileage versions, because of how it protects an engine across a long interval.

Reliable, for a Montville driver, means two things: the oil change is done right every time, and the shop is easy to reach from wherever in the township you happen to be. Both are true here.

— WHY MONTVILLE COMES TO HOGWASH —

What Makes a Synthetic Oil Change Reliable

The first thing is the oil. We use Mobil 1 exclusively, in full synthetic and high-mileage formulas. Mobil 1 full synthetic is known for engine protection, efficiency and performance, and it holds up under the mix Montville cars see: cold morning starts on the Towaco side, in-town runs along Route 202, and highway heat on I-287 and I-80. For an older vehicle with a lot of township miles, the high-mileage formula is the better fit. Our technicians will tell you which one your engine calls for.

The second is the process. Every Mobil 1 oil change includes a new oil filter and a fluid check, and our technicians provide fast, reliable oil changes with attention to detail using the latest equipment. Nothing is skipped to make it quick; the drive-thru format is what makes it quick.

The third is consistency. Montville is a township where a lot of people have lived for decades, and they tend to stick with a shop that does the job the same way every visit. Competitive pricing and friendly staff make us an easy stop for Montville drivers, whether they live in Lake Valhalla, on the Pine Brook side or in the older neighborhoods off Main Road.

And because the car wash shares the location, a car that has spent the winter on salted township roads can leave with clean oil and a clean exterior in the same stop.

From Montville, Towaco or Pine Brook to Our Bay on Route 46

Montville borders Parsippany directly, and the township sits where I-287, I-80 and Route 46 come together, so the shop is a short run from every part of it.

From Pine Brook

Pine Brook is the southern end of the township and already lives on Route 46. Take 46 into Parsippany and pull in at 1600 US-46. This is the shortest trip of the three.

From Montville and Main Road

From the municipal building on River Road, the library on Horseneck Road or the neighborhoods along Main Road (Route 202), a simple route is Route 202 south to I-287 south, then Route 46 to 1600 US-46. Changebridge Road down to Route 46 works too.

From Towaco

Towaco station on the Montclair-Boonton Line sits on Route 202, and a lot of Towaco commuters drive to it every weekday. From the station, follow Route 202 south toward Montville and I-287 south to Route 46. A commuter can stop on the way home; we are open until 6:00 PM on Friday and Saturday.

When you arrive, pull into the drive-thru bay, put the car in park and stay put. When the oil change is done, you drive out. The car wash is at the same location if you want a wash on the same trip.

Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil Change, Plus the Maintenance Township Miles Add Up To

The core service is a Mobil 1 oil change: full synthetic or high-mileage Mobil 1, a new oil filter and a fluid check, done while you sit in the car. Around it, our technicians handle the routine items a car doing Montville miles picks up over a year.

Tire rotation

Between the hills on the Towaco and Lake Valhalla side and the highway miles on 287, front tires wear faster than rears. A tire rotation evens that out and is easy to add to an oil change.

Engine and cabin air filters

Montville still has farms, wooded ridges and the Passaic River lowlands on its eastern edge, so pollen, dust and leaf debris find their way into filters. An engine air filter and cabin air filter replacement keeps airflow clean and can be fitted during your visit.

Fuel injection service

Runs between the villages are often too short to fully warm an engine, and injector deposits build up. A fuel injection service cleans those deposits and restores efficiency.

Fluids, belts and wipers

We also handle transmission flush, radiator flush and fill, differential service, serpentine belt inspection and wiper blade replacement. Ask in the bay for details. The full list is on our services page.

— MONTVILLE HISTORY —

How Montville Got Its Name

Montville’s name traces back to the Mandeville Inn, which stood before the Revolutionary War. The Dutch pronounced Mandeville as Mondeveil, and that pronunciation was eventually corrupted to Montville. The later Montville Inn stood on the site of the old Mandeville Inn.

The Morris Canal reached the area in 1828, bringing commercial navigation to Montville and Towaco. In the mid-1800s two smaller village centers grew apart from Montville itself: Pine Brook, a fertile farming area at the southern end, and Towaco, on the canal. In 1867 the Township of Montville was formally chartered from 19 square miles of territory that had been part of Pequannock Township.

That history is on display at the Montville Township Historical Museum on Taylortown Road, near Route 202. The red brick building was built in 1867 and was one of the first one-room schools in the area; its land was donated by a district superintendent of the Morris Canal. Pine Brook also had its own claim to fame: the Pine Brook Speedway, which ran from 1962 to 1989 and was built for midget car racing.

Today the township has about 20,000 residents across its three sections, and they cover a lot of ground by car. See our Pine Brook page for the southern end of the township.

The canal left a lasting mark here. Montville contains roughly four miles of the former Morris Canal route, including a notable concentration of the inclined planes the canal used to move boats over hills. The township museum building, after its years as a one-room school, also served as a town hall and post office. And Towaco still has rail service, with a station on NJ Transit’s Montclair-Boonton Line.

Oil Change Questions From Montville, Towaco and Pine Brook

Here are some of the most common questions about our services at Hogwash.

Hogwash Oil Change Center has one location, at 1600 US-46, Parsippany, NJ 07054. Montville borders Parsippany, and Route 46 and I-287 connect the two from Pine Brook, Montville and Towaco alike. We do not offer mobile service.

No. Drive in whenever we are open: Monday to Saturday until 5:00 PM.

Only Mobil 1: full synthetic for most engines, high-mileage for older ones. A new oil filter and a fluid check are part of every change, not extras.

Short, cold-start trips are harder on oil than highway miles, so a full synthetic like Mobil 1 is the right choice for that pattern. If the car has high mileage, the high-mileage formula may suit it better. Ask the technician in the bay.

Yes. The car wash is on the same property as the oil bay, and it stays open on Sundays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Mobil Super $39.99, Mobil Super High Mileage $69.99, Mobil Super Synthetic $79.99 and Mobil 1 $99.99. Other services have the starting prices listed on this page.

Yes: tire rotation, air filters, fuel injection service, transmission flush, radiator flush and fill, differential service, engine flush, 4×4 drive service, serpentine belts and wiper blades.

— WHAT TO EXPECT —

Your First Visit From Montville, Step by Step

A typical Montville visit looks like this. A Towaco commuter comes off the Montclair-Boonton Line, drives 202 south to 287, takes the Route 46 exit and pulls into our bay. The technician has the old oil out and the new filter on before the conversation about which Mobil 1 formula the car takes is over. Fluids get checked, the wipers get a look because they were asked about, and the car rolls out the far side of the bay.

Between visits, remember that village-to-village trips are short trips, and short trips shorten an oil interval. Let the oil-life indicator be the guide, and if a warning light or a smell shows up first, call 973-335-3000.
